Feel Better About Retirement: A Certified Financial Planner Can Help

When you look for a doctor to provide care for you and your family, what qualities do you look for? Most answers are probably the same: you want someone who has a good deal of experience, who is well-educated, and who is constantly devoted to learning more about their field of expertise. Having those qualities helps you trust the person providing you care.

When it comes to hiring a financial advisor, we think the same qualities apply.

Your financial advisor should be someone who is experienced, well-educated in financial planning, and devoted to their practice. Having these qualities can help increase confidence that your nest egg and your financial dreams are in good hands.

A Certified Financial Planner Can Provide You Expertise and Experience

One of the immediate benefits you receive when working with a CFP is the assurance that they’ve completed rigorous coursework in retirement and financial planning and are devotees to the field.

For people who want to go to school for a degree in retirement and financial planning, they go through the process of becoming a Certified Financial Planner. Receiving the CFP designation is hard work and takes dedication to achieve, and it provides a financial advisor with the tools needed to serve their clients’ best interests.

The Education Requirement for Certified Financial Planners

Becoming a CFP is hard work and takes dedication:

1) You must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher at an accredited college or university; and,

2) You must complete college or university level coursework through a program registered with the CFP Board, addressing major personal financial planning areas.

Requirement #2 sets a CFP apart. In coursework that typically takes between 18 and 24 months to complete, a financial advisor seeking the CFP designation must complete classes in general principles of financial planning, insurance planning, investment planning, income tax planning, retirement planning, estate planning, and fiduciary responsibility.1
